How to Sponsor a
Money Empowerment for Women
Workshop in your area
Participants: open to members of your group and any other interested women.
Maximum attendance: 50
Space needs: one fairly large room with seating for all participants, set up in semi-circle
or small groupings of seats (3-4)
Times: The day could run from 9am-lpm, 1pm-5pm, 3pm-7pm, or 4pm-8pm
Additional possibility: Light lunch or supper could be served after the workshop,
offering the time to more informally get together and talk about possibilities and
for participants to get to know their new "money buddy".
Possible workshop fee: $35 - $40, with possibilities for a sliding scale or scholarship
sponsorship by local businesses or financial institutions.
Presenter Fee: The Balancing Act fee is $500 plus travel expenses for such a half-day (four hour) course if the sponsoring group does most of the organizing. If you decide on a sliding scale and only meet
the minimum of 15 participants at the lower fee, she will accept a minimum of
$450. Any amount over $500 goes to the group for their fundraising. Lu will
provide all the materials needed for the workshop including many very useful
handouts and an annotated bibliography.
Commitment by group:
1. Distribute flyers among members and other interested women. The choice to
mail or distribute by hand is up to the group.
Flyer masters will be provided by Lu with the group's input regarding
price, time, location and other details.
2. Coordinate promotion in print, radio and television. Place local PSA's and
calendar listings for the workshop.
3. Designate someone to receive the registrations, collect them, coordinate with
Lu and whoever is working with the site location. Deposit the registrations
somewhere, and make distributions to presenter and sponsoring group(s)
per agreement. Lu's fee of $450 or $500 would be due on the day of the
workshop .
4. Site coordination - Secure a good location, arrive early and stay late for set-up
and clean-up. The best location would be a comfortable, quiet, private
room large enough to accommodate the expected number of participants.
A carpeted space with comfortable seating is wonderful.
5. Refreshments - Coordinate and provide beverages and, if you choose, a light
meal, perhaps soup, salad and bread after or as a break at the workshop.
Perhaps a potluck could be provided by the group?
The Next Steps:
1. Decide if your group is interested in sponsoring this workshop.
2. Discuss the group's preferences for: workshop fee, location, dates, time
schedule, meal.
3. Discuss possibilities for alternate funding or support locally, such as
community grants, bank or other business sponsorship.
4. Decide who will have what responsibility and establish a time-line for the
work to be done.
5. Designate a liaison who will work with Lu's office and reserve the date as
soon as possible.
